British Tamils Cricket League – By Jeyaraj Kulasekaram

The British Tamils Cricket League (BTCL) was founded in 2005 to promote cricket within the wider community, particularly the Tamil community, and promote a cricket league for youth in the United Kingdom.

The BTCL has since firmly established itself as a leading community cricket league in the UK.

BTCL works in partnership with mainstream cricket bodies, including England Cricket Board (ECB),  Club Cricket Conference (CCC), Surrey Cricket Foundation, Essex County Cricket, Kent County Cricket, Middlesex County Cricket & National Asian Cricket Council. As a result, the community and its peers frequently recognise BTCL’s work and contribution to cricket and the wider community.

BTCL provides a safe environment for youth to excel in sports while developing sportsmanship.

The BTCL’s goal is to provide a platform for youth to play and excel in cricket and develop skills to be better citizens of the UK.

Since its inception, the league has grown rapidly and comprises sixty-four teams with more than two thousand players. The teams are currently split into eight divisions: Premier, Super, Champions, Legends, Challenge & Community. More than 500 matches are played per season.
